Author Guidelines

Manuscripts are accepted in English only. The full requirements are in the Author Guidelines on the journal website; the essentials are below. A submission that does not meet them is returned at the editorial check, before review.

  • Choose the article type and stay within its word limit, excluding abstract, references, tables and figure captions: Research Article up to 8,000 words, Review Article up to 12,000 words, Short Communication up to 3,000 words. The length of an Editorial is agreed with the editors. To exceed a limit, ask in the cover letter before you submit.
  • Send an anonymised main manuscript in DOCX or PDF, a separate title page with all identifying information, figures and tables, any supplementary material, and a cover letter naming the article type and the subject area. A LaTeX submission is reviewed as a compiled PDF; the source files are supplied on acceptance.
  • Give an abstract of at most 250 words, in one paragraph, with no citations and no undefined abbreviations, and 4 to 6 keywords.
  • Anonymise the main file: no author names, affiliations, e-mail addresses, ORCID identifiers, acknowledgements, funding or ethics details, and none of that in the file properties either. Review is double-blind. Keep your self-citations, but write them in the third person.
  • An ORCID identifier is required for every author, without exception. It goes on the title page, not in the anonymised manuscript.
  • Use IEEE style for references: cite in the text with numbers in square brackets in order of first appearance, order the list by citation number, and include the DOI wherever one exists.
  • Place the required declarations before the reference list: author contributions in CRediT roles, conflicts of interest, funding, use of generative AI, data availability, and ethics approval where it applies.
  • Format the manuscript as A4, single column, 1.5 line spacing, an 11 or 12 point serif face, with numbered pages and continuous line numbers.

Submission Preparation Checklist

  • The work is within the scope of the journal, has not been published before and is not under consideration by another journal. A preprint or a conference abstract is not prior publication, but it is disclosed in the cover letter.
  • The article type is chosen and the manuscript is within its word limit, or permission to exceed it is requested in the cover letter.
  • The main file is anonymised: no author names, affiliations, e-mail addresses, ORCID identifiers, acknowledgements, funding or ethics details, and nothing identifying in the file properties. Self-citations are written in the third person and kept.
  • A separate title page carries the full title, every author with affiliation, e-mail and ORCID, and the marked corresponding author. An ORCID is supplied for every author.
  • The abstract is at most 250 words, in one paragraph, with no citations and no undefined abbreviations, and 4 to 6 keywords are given.
  • References follow the IEEE style and include DOIs where available; they are numbered in order of first appearance and each one has been checked against the primary source.
  • The required declarations are present before the reference list: author contributions, conflicts of interest, funding, use of generative AI, data availability, and ethics approval where it applies.
  • All files are ready: main manuscript, title page, figures, tables, supplementary material and cover letter.
